US Special Forces will remain in Afghanistan

According to a report in the Washington Post, US Special Forces and CIA Officials will remain in Afghanistan for “the long term”.

While quoting a high ranking US official, the Washington Post reported that the US government will replace some existing US troops with Special Forces after the completion of the security transition process in Afghanistan.

The unnamed US official said that US Special Forces have the ability to replace significant numbers of US forces in Afghanistan and launch night raids with Afghan security forces.

US Special Forces Commander Bill McRaven confirmed that the US Special Forces would be the last to leave Afghanistan under the Obama administration’s current plan.

While talking about the expansion of Special Forces Operation to eliminate armed insurgents in Afghanistan, Admiral Bill McRaven said that the US Special Forces are going to expand as the regular US forces leave Afghanistan after a decade of war.

Some military analysts believe that this US action may harm both countries. One analyst said that the US has been in Afghanistan for its own national interest and also to exert influence in the region.

Carrying out night raids is a sensitive issue between Kabul and Washington, and have often disturbed bilateral relations.
