Military Special Operations Tactical Comms Headset

The Dominatoris the most badass tactical communications headset DefenseReview (DR) has ever seen, and it just recently went into production. Per our previous story, we viewed The Dominator tactical comms headset at the 2010 Special Operations Forces Industry Conference (SOFIC 2010). Since then, it’s been tweaked and upgraded a little bit, so the production-version Dominator on display at SOFIC 2011 is even better. How good is it? Rumor has it that the U.S. Naval Special Warfare Development Group (NSWDG)/DEVGRU assaulters/operators on the Usama Bin Laden (UBL) kill teamwore Dominator headsets during the op…so, pretty good.
The AS Dominator is a bone-conduction headset that also incorporates in-ear electronic hearing pro (hearing protection). At $2,000 per unit, The Dominator ain’t cheap, but quality equipment never is. Besides, how much is your life worth? Crucial survival equipment isn’t something you want to skimp on when you’re participating in a balls-to-the-wall/all-bets-are-off Direct Action (DA) mission. All Dominator headset tactical communications suite components are top-notch, including the Phonak in-ear electronic tactical hearing pro and right-angle ODU connectors, that are watertight and crucial to the Dominator’s combat-reliability. Defense Review is unsure which model connector The Dominator uses, whether it’s the ODU Mini-Snap Connector (MSC) or the new ODU Advanced Military Connector (AMC).
If you want some more Dominator details, we’d recommend that you watch the video clips below and read Defense Review’s original article on it. The video clips below feature Atlantic Signal’s Director of Operations/U.S. Military Sales Randall Hedrick, who was nice enough to take DR through The Dominator’s particulars. Hedrick also took us through the Ops-Core FAST Ballistic Helmet(combat helmet), featuring the Head-Loc chinstrap retention system, and the Avon Protection Systems (APS) M53 U.S. Special Operations Gas Mask/Respirator.
“FAST” stands for “Future Assault Shell Technology”. The Ops-Core FAST Helmet is optimized for tactical comms headsets like The Dominator. It was adapted from (i.e., based on) a Lacrosse helmet, which makes sense since Ops-Core is located in Boston, MA, and Lacrosse is big out there. The FAST Ballistic Helmet is more adjustable than the MICH combat helmet, due to the FAST’s unique design and rear adjustment knob, and more secure due to the Head-Loc chin strap design. The FAST Helmet’s FAST-ARCs 4-position accessory rail connectors (quick-attach/detach) for headborne accessories is another prominent feature.
The Dominator can also be utilized in conjunction with the aforementioned Avon Protection Systems (APS) M53 U.S. Special Operations Gas Mask/Respirator.
